HAMPSHIRE CONSTABULARY MARINE UNIT SUCCESSFULLY TEST CHIP + TRACE PRO - 8th Dec 2008
In the Autumn Chip and Trace Pro was tasked to perform a RIB theft simulation exercise through the Solent.
The 35 knot 6 metre RIB was initially tracked using GPS heading for the Hamble estuary, the Police Launch followed at approx 18 knots.
Actual lat/long and course directions were passed to the Police Launch via radio, from the monitoring Officer in the Police Control Room who received the information, real time, on their computer.
Soon the Chip and Trace Pro GPS positions had stopped reporting, but was subsequently traced using GSM.
About 1 mile from the from the last GPS/GSM position the hand held radio location equipment started to receive the homing beacon (in-built into the Chip and Trace Pro Unit), within 10 minutes the launch tied up along side the RIB, which was hidden amongst 100's of craft in Port Hamble Marina
Now the radio find operation was required to home in on the Chip and Trace Pro Unit, Richard Taylor from Automatrics stepped onto the jetty and the used the radio finder.
Within 15 minutes the Chip and Trace Pro Unit was located, it had been hidden in the Marina Office, placed behind the cash register.
